Portable Seawater Desalination: Frequently Asked Questions

Portable Seawater Desalination: Frequently Asked Questions
How Much Fresh Water Can a Portable Desalination Machine Produce?
The WTEYA SW-4021 portable seawater desalination machine produces 300 GPD (about 1,200 liters per day, 50 liters per hour), enough drinking and domestic water for 5-8 people on boats, yachts, or coastal homes. Larger 4040 systems produce 7-9 tons per day with a single membrane, and up to 10-20 tons per day with multiple membranes in parallel.
Can Portable Desalination Run on Solar Power or Boat Batteries?
Yes. The SW-4021 supports 24V DC power from boat batteries or solar systems, in addition to standard 220V AC. Both power lines must be connected simultaneously before starting. Solar-powered desalination is ideal for off-grid islands, coastal camps, and emergency use.
Is the Produced Water Safe to Drink?
Yes. RO membranes reject more than 99% of dissolved salts, and the water passes through UV sterilization (254nm). Product water quality meets drinking water standards: total coliforms not detected, bacteria count below 100 CFU/mL, and TDS below 1,000 mg/L.
How Much Does a Portable Desalination Machine Cost?
The price depends on model, power configuration, and accessories. The SW-4021 portable unit offers the best value for boats and yachts, while 4040 systems serve small communities and resorts. Please contact WTEYA for a quotation based on your specific needs and water source.
How Do I Maintain a Portable Desalination Machine?
Maintenance is simple: clean the pre-filters every 5-60 hours of use (depending on seawater clarity), replace the RO membrane after more than 3,600 operating hours (about 180-360 days), change the UV lamp after 3,000 hours, and change the plunger pump oil every 500 hours using CKD220 gear oil. For long-term storage over 3 days, use a 1%-1.5% SMBS preservation solution.
